FAQ
Who is therapy suitable for?
Therapy is suitable for a very broad spectrum of people with different needs or issues. Therapy could be for you if you struggle with any past trauma, a difficult relationship, a toxic partner, a loss of a loved one, daily hardships or any number of emotional or behavioral problems such as anxiety, depression, panic attacks, phobias, or even physical symptoms due to emotional stress. Therapy is also a great path for someone who doesn't have a specific problem right now, but believes working on himself can have a great benefit for knowing how to cope with different situations so that a crisis doesn't arise later on.
Should I have a problem to go to therapy?
Absolutely not. There are many people who choose to see a therapist or psychologist with the sole goal on improving themselves, building stronger relationships, knowing how to have a balanced work and social life and so much more. If you are one of these people I would love to work with you on your goals and your personal growth.
How can I make an appointment?
You can make your appointment via a call or text to +359899102953 or email - mihaela_stoyanova@abv.bg.
What can I expect from my first session?
The first session is based on your therapist getting to know you and visa versa. It's important to tell them your situation and what you want to get out of therapy. Talking about feelings is always hard but you should remember that change takes time and anything you share stays confidential. During the first meeting you should set your expectations /would you like short-term therapy or do you need a deeper, longer approach/ and you and your therapist will figure out how many sessions you may need. This is the time you can ask as many questions as you need and see if this will be the right fit for you.
How long does therapy continue?
Each person has their individual path so no two people will share the same experience in therapy. Therefore it's difficult to say how many sessions would be right for you. Some people come to therapy with a specific symptom or problem in mind and want a short-term approach while others want to work on their relationships or childhood trauma which usually takes a longer period of time. There are also many cases where a person comes with one situation in mind but stays longer wanting to grow and improve through therapy so it all depends on the situation and the client preference.
Can a therapy session happen in my home or office?
A therapy session can happen in any quiet private place if there is an emergent need to do so, but I prefer that the client comes to my office. I offer home/office therapy as well but it is there for clients with motor difficulties, ones with social phobias or those who have busy schedules and cannot make time to get to my office, although this reflects in the price range. If you have a specific case that needs a different approach - you can call me and we will talk through ways to cater to your situation.
What is the difference between a psychologist, psychotherapist, psychiatrist and a consultant?
Firstly, we should say that a psychiatrist is a doctor with medical training that specialises in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses. He is the only one that can prescribe medicine and works in a hospital. The other three have psychological or social degrees. In Bulgaria a psychologist is a person with university training who can further his training with courses and who consults clients in therapy. A consultant in a specific psychotherapy approach is a person who has finished a base course in a certain therapy academy /such as family therapy, psychoanalysis, cognitive behavioral therapy, etc./ and a consultant usually focuses on a few sessions with a client before referring him to a psychotherapist who has finished a masters course in a certain therapy academy and consults his patients according to this method.
